The apex court has dealt a significant blow to the Telangana government by dismissing its petitions against Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader T Harish Rao and former DCP P Radha Kishan Rao. By upholding the previous rulings of the Telangana High Court, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the state's challenge, bringing a major legal relief to the former minister.
The legal battle stems from a controversial complaint lodged by a Siddipet resident, Chakradhar Goud, at the Panjagutta police station. Goud had alleged that Harish Rao, with the assistance of Radha Kishan Rao, had illegally tapped his phone. This complaint led to the registration of an FIR, which the BRS leader immediately contested in the High Court. After the state failed to convince the High Court of the merits of the case, the government moved the Supreme Court, only to be met with another dismissal.
Within the BRS camp, the ruling is being celebrated as a validation of their stance that the case was politically motivated. BRS leader Manne Krishank labelled the top court's decision a "major setback" for the current state administration, suggesting that the government’s efforts to target opposition leaders have hit a legal dead end. This dismissal marks the end of this particular legal chapter for Harish Rao, further complicating the government's narrative surrounding the phone-tapping allegations that have dominated local headlines for months.
