Schools remain shut in J&K, authorities moot online classes

In order to prevent any untoward incident in continuously disrupting inclement weather, School Education Department  on Wednesday ordered the closure of all schools across the Kashmir for the day following continuous heavy rains that have severly impacted normal life.

Incessant rains continue across Jammu and Kashmir affecting normal life


In order to prevent any untoward incident in continuously disrupting inclement weather, School Education Department  on Wednesday ordered the closure of all schools across the Kashmir for the day following continuous heavy rains that have severly impacted normal life.

 

Director School Education Kashmir  announced that both government and private schools in the division will remain shut. He said the step has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and commuters amid the prevailing weather conditions.The Valley has witnessed incessant rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to rising water levels in rivers and streams, prompting authorities to issue advisories and take preventive steps.

 

Education authorities said regular classwork would resume once the weather improves and conditions are deemed safe. With no improvement in weather condition, it was announced that all government and private schools across Jammu Division will remain closed till September 5, 2025, in view of continuous heavy rains and the weather alert issued by the IMD.According to an order issued by the Directorate of School Education Jammu, the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff as several areas face the risk of landslides, flash floods, and severe waterlogging. The order further states that online classes should be conducted wherever possible to maintain continuity of education.

 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the situation arising from the incessant rains across Jammu and Kashmir.In a post on X, office of the Chief Minister, stated that he directed the administration to intensify ground response, ensure clearance of waterlogged areas, safeguard essential services, carry out timely evacuations in critical zones, and provide immediate relief.It stated that ministers Javed Rana and Satish Sharma briefed on the situation in Jammu, while minister Sakina Itoo and advisor to the CM Nasir Sogami provided updates on the situation in Kashmir. The Chief Minister appealed to the people to follow advisories, avoid vulnerable spots, and stay safe.
