Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have announced that schools will remain closed on March 2 and 3 following multiple drone incursions along the Line of Control (LoC). The situation is evolving amid Pakistan’s ongoing conflict with Afghanistan, as well as the broader war involving the US, Iran, and Israel, officials said.

The Directorate of School Education issued an order stating that the reopening of schools up to Class 8, which was scheduled for March 2 after the winter break, has been put on hold due to the rapidly evolving security situation in South Asia.

The order read, “In the interest of administration and safety of students, it is hereby ordered that all Government and Private Recognised Schools of Kashmir Division shall remain closed on 2nd & 3rd March, 2026.”

This decision comes a day after the Indian Army successfully thwarted an attempt by 2–3 small drones to violate Indian airspace along the LoC in the Poonch sector during the early hours of Sunday.

According to officials, the incident occurred between 5:45 am and 6:00 am, when the quadcopters attempted to breach Indian airspace. Security forces responded promptly, forcing the drones to retreat without any reported airdrops or escalation.

Over the past two months, several Pakistani drones have noticeably tried to infiltrate Indian territory, but alert security forces stationed along the LoC and International Border have either neutralised them or compelled them to return. The Indian Army has intensified surveillance, monitoring, and counter-drone operations to deter future attempts.

However, broader security tensions in West Asia—driven by the ongoing war between Iran, Israel, and the United States—are also contributing to heightened risks in sensitive border regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Explosions were reported in Tehran and other major cities over the weekend, with US President Donald Trump and Iranian state media confirming that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes, along with his daughter, grandchild, daughter-in-law and son-in-law.
