Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for six development projects worth Rs 219 crore in Tripura, aimed at improving road connectivity, clean energy access and essential services, with Chief Minister Manik Saha present.

The projects, spanning completed and upcoming works, are intended to accelerate socio-economic development, improve access to remote and tribal areas, and strengthen livelihoods across the state.

Addressing the gathering, Scindia said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ashtalakshmi” vision, the Northeast has shifted from being seen as a peripheral region to emerging as a key driver of India’s growth and connectivity with Southeast Asia.

The Union Minister inaugurated three completed projects with a combined outlay of Rs 153.63 crore. These include the Jatanbari–Mandirghat Road built at a cost of Rs 50.79 crore, the Gandacherra-Raishyabari Road developed for Rs 21.82 crore, and a Solar Microgrid Project implemented with an investment of Rs 81.02 crore.

The upgraded road infrastructure is expected to improve connectivity between villages, markets, healthcare facilities and educational institutions, while boosting trade and mobility in interior and tribal regions.

The Solar Microgrid Project, implemented under the PM-DevINE framework, is aimed at providing reliable and clean electricity in remote and difficult terrains, strengthening healthcare delivery, education, livelihoods and overall quality of life.

Scindia also laid the foundation stone for three new projects with an estimated cost of Rs 65.26 crore. These include the Kowaifung–Karbook Road project valued at Rs 30.72 crore, the Jampui Hill Road project costing Rs 21.54 crore, and a Veterinary Clinical Complex with an outlay of Rs 13 crore.

The new initiatives are expected to enhance all-weather connectivity in hilly areas, improve access to markets and essential services, and strengthen animal healthcare infrastructure to support farmers and rural livelihoods.

Highlighting the Centre’s focus on the region, Scindia said that over the past decade, more than Rs 6.5 lakh crore has been invested in the Northeastern states, with every Central ministry earmarking 10 per cent of its budget for the region’s development.

The Centre also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Saha, stating that strong Centre–State coordination has helped Tripura set new benchmarks in infrastructure creation, social development and inclusive growth.

During his visit, the Union Minister reviewed ongoing development works with the Chief Minister and offered prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple at Matabari, one of the country’s prominent Shakti Peeths, seeking prosperity for Tripura and the nation.
