Rescue operations underway at Chandil Dam in Jharkhand.

Search efforts to locate a missing trainer aircraft in Jharkhand’s Chandil Dam entered their sixth day on Sunday, with teams from the Navy and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continuing operations in the Seraikela-Kharswan district.

The two-seater Cessna-152, which took off from Jamshedpur on August 20, lost contact with the Jamshedpur Air Traffic Control (ATC) at around 11:10 AM the same day.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Chandil) Subhra Rani confirmed that the search is still ongoing, though the bodies of the trainee pilot, Shubhrodeep Dutta, and his instructor, Captain Jeet Satru Anand, were recovered from the dam on Thursday.

The bodies were handed over to their families following a post-mortem examination.

Alchemist Aviation Private Ltd, the aircraft’s owner, stated that it was too early to determine the cause of the crash. The aircraft had 80 litres of fuel, with an endurance of 4 hours and 30 minutes, although the scheduled flight time was just one hour.

Authorities continue to comb through the dam in hopes of locating the wreckage and uncovering the circumstances behind the tragic incident.
