The search operation for missing youth Tanveer Ahmad Chopan, who allegedly jumped into Nallah Bishleri in Ramban district to escape a cow vigilante attack, continued on the seventh straight day, officials said. Chopan was chased and beaten by the vigilantes near Digdool along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
Officials believe he jumped to escape the attackers between Pantiyal and the Makarkoot bridge and tunnel area. Rescue teams have continued their searches in the fast-flowing Bishleri stream but have not achieved any success so far.
Authorities said they are deploying the latest equipment and technology, along with cameras and drones, to search beneath large stones and inaccessible parts of the stream.
On Saturday, more than 1,000 volunteers joined hands with the searching NDRF and SDRF teams, the Police, and the Army to assist in the search operation.
Besides, organisations such as Himalayan QRT Ramsoo, Banihal Volunteers, Civil QRT Ramban, QRT Khari, Umeed, Red Cross Banihal, and Hamdard also extended their support.
The search radius has been expanded from Nallah Bishleri to Battery Chashma, going up to the Makarkoot incident site.
The ongoing search operation is being overseen by Additional SP Ramban Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Bhat and SDM Ramsoo Syed Mazahir Hussain Shah.
Despite deploying all available men, machinery, and teams of expert divers, authorities have not yet been able to locate the missing person’s body from the stream, as the search continues on Sunday.
