A brief exchange of fire occurred between terrorists and security forces yesterday in the Marha Buffliaz area of the Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials reported that late Thursday night, security forces received specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. A search operation was subsequently launched by the police and army in the general area of Marha Buffliaz, near DKG.
As the search party intensified their efforts, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces, leading to a brief gunfight, officials said.
The terrorists managed to flee the scene by taking advantage of the darkness. No loss of life or injuries has been reported as of the time this report was filed.
Meanwhile, a massive search operation is underway to track down the fleeing terrorists.
On December 20, 2023, at least four soldiers were killed and three others injured in a terrorist ambush on two military vehicles in Poonch district.
Similarly, terrorists active in the Poonch Rajouri region have carried out several attacks this year as well.
On April 29, a village defence guard (VDG) was also killed in a brief exchange of fire with terrorists in Rajouri.
On May 4, 2024, terrorists attacked two IAF convoy vehicles. "During the attack, five IAF personnel sustained bullet injuries and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior later succumbed to his injuries." Stated an army spokesperson.
Security has been heightened, and additional troops have been deployed to the region to prevent further attacks.
These districts pose significant challenges to security and intelligence agencies due to their proximity to the border and dense forest cover, which provides terrorists with an advantage to execute attacks and escape before reinforcements arrive.
