Security forces resumed massive search operations in various regions of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, particularly in the forests near Surankote, to locate the terrorists responsible for the ambush on an IAF convoy that killed an IAF warrior and injured five other troops. 

 

However, a breakthrough remained elusive as the terrorists looked to have retreated deep inside the forest of the region.

 

Security personnel, including the Army, paramilitary forces, and police, expanded their search to other areas of the twin districts on the third day today.

 

The streets of Surankote and surrounding areas awoke to posters of two persons described as key suspects in the case and an announcement of a Rs 20 lakh cash prize for providing information.

 

More than 20 people were held for interrogation as security forces sought clues to eliminate the terrorists who fled into neighbouring forests after ambushing Shahsitar in the Surankote district on Saturday evening.

 

According to reports, security forces are gathering information that will eventually aid in the capture of terrorists.

 

Meanwhile, the cordon and search operation has been extended to multiple villages, and the radius of the cordon and search operation has also been widened to trace out the terrorists hiding inside the forests.

 

To prevent terrorists from escaping, multiple checkpoints have also been established at several locations.

 

Additionally, vehicle checks have been intensified in both Poonch and Rajouri districts, which are part of the Anantnag Parliamentary constituency that will vote on May 25.

 

The mountainous terrain and dense forests provide ample cover for militants to carry out attacks and then quickly vanish, complicating efforts to apprehend them.

 

Terrorists are now resorting to what is known as "classic guerrilla warfare tactics," which means they wait, strike, and disappear before reinforcements arrive.

 

The security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Poonch and Rajouri, have become a matter of grave concern for security forces stationed in the region.
