The security forces on Monday launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district following reports of suspicious movement on the outskirts, according to officials.
Residents of Sandi village in the Purmandal area spotted three unidentified individuals—believed to be outsiders—carrying bags and sitting near a field. The villagers immediately alerted the police.
Acting swiftly, the police and security personnel cordoned off the area and began a thorough search operation, officials said.
As of the latest reports, the search was still underway. The authorities have urged residents to stay alert and immediately report any unusual activity in their surroundings.
Mortar shell destroyed in Rajouri
Meanwhile, security forces on Monday evening destroyed a highly explosive mortar shell discovered in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The shell was recovered from a field in Manyal village of Thanamandi tehsil after local villagers spotted it and promptly alerted the Army and the police.
Acting swiftly, a Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot and safely neutralised the shell, preventing a potential major mishap, officials added.
