A search operation to locate militants entered its second day on Sunday after their movement was reported last week. The operation has been intensified with the deployment of drones and other advanced technologies, officials said.
The operation to track down militants was launched by different units of the army in the Bhattal areas on Saturday after locals reported suspicious movements in the Jogiwan forest area. They suspected these were infiltrators.
More reinforcements have been deployed to track down militants in the densely forested terrain.
The search operation is ongoing, with additional troops mobilised to cover more ground, even as no trace of the suspected persons has been found so far, officials said.
It is believed that these militants have infiltrated following the recent snowfall in the upper reaches of the LoC in J&K.
Meanwhile, security forces stated that they have deployed drones and other latest equipment, along with sniffer dogs, to sanitise the area, while police parties have also joined the search operation.
In recent months, there has been a significant drop in terror-related violence in Jammu and Kashmir, as alert forces have thwarted multiple infiltration bids along the LoC and international border.
Earlier, three heavily armed terrorists of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were eliminated in a two-day-long operation in the Akhnoor sector on October 28 and 29 last year.
