The second batch of the 2026 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp this morning under extensive security arrangements. The Yatra, which started yesterday, has continued smoothly in the Kashmir Valley after the first batch headed to the base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal.
According to the Zonal Police Control Room, Jammu, a total of 3,865 pilgrims departed in a convoy of 201 vehicles for the twin base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam. Officials said that around 1,735 pilgrims travelling in 115 vehicles are heading towards the Baltal base camp, while 2,130 pilgrims in 86 vehicles are going to the Pahalgam base camp.
Today’s batch comprises 2,965 males, 618 females, 230 sadhus, 48 sadhvis, and four children. The convoy consists of 83 buses, 14 medium motor vehicles (MMVs), and 104 light motor vehicles (LMVs).
The first half of the convoy left the Jammu base camp at 3.13 am, followed by the Pahalgam-bound convoy at 3.38 am, under stringent security measures.
After entering Ramban district via the Nashri Tunnel, the Baltal-bound pilgrims are scheduled to halt at Lambar Ground, Banihal, where breakfast and other basic facilities have been arranged. Meanwhile, pilgrims travelling towards the Pahalgam route will stop at the Chanderkoot Langar sites in Ramban for breakfast before continuing their onward journey to south Kashmir..
All necessary arrangements have been put in place by the administration, including health, medical, and convenience facilities, to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra.
The pilgrimage began on Thursday, but the first batch, which left Jammu yesterday, will perform darshan today only.
The authorities expect a massive rush this year, with improved facilities and security arrangements.
