An encounter is currently underway between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.
According to official sources, the clash erupted on Saturday as security personnel advanced in a cordon and search operation in the Panar region.
In a post on X, the Indian Army reported that on 1 November, alert troops in the Panar area observed suspicious movement.
"On being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and escaped into the jungle. Search operation underway,” posted Chinar Corps, Indian Army, providing updates on the unfolding situation.
The ongoing encounter follows an earlier cordon and search operation in Srinagar’s downtown area, where suspected militants opened fire on a joint search party as security forces approached, leading to a second ongoing confrontation in the city.
This surge in encounters comes on the heels of several recent attacks.
On 29 October, three militants were neutralised after ambushing a medical ambulance in Akhnoor.
In a tragic attack on 20 October, militants killed a doctor and six construction workers at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district.
This is a developing story, and further details will follow as they emerge.
