Security forces apprehended three militant associates in separate suspected to be involved in an alleged arms smuggling case in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Officials said that two persons were arrested during separate operations, and arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession in the Kashmir valley.
The army said on December 21 that, based on specific intelligence input, a joint mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) was established by the security forces, Jammu and Kashmir police, and the central reserve police (CRPF) at Chanpura area in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
One suspected individual has been apprehended along with the recovery of one pistol, one hand grenade, and other warlike stores.
“During a joint Naka by the Police and the Army’s 14RR at Nadihal this evening, a person was seen moving suspiciously. When he was challenged, he attempted to flee.
However, security forces tactically apprehended the terrorist associate. He has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Ganie Malik, a resident of Gundpora Rampura, Bandipora,” officials said.
From his possession, one pistol, one hand grenade, and 15 rounds were recovered. More details are awaited.
In another similar operation at Yarbug in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district conducted on Saturday, the army aided in the apprehension of two more suspected individuals along with one pistol, two hand grenades, and other warlike stores.
Further investigation by police is in progress, they said.
