Security forces conduct search operations in Srinagar

Preparations for Republic Day in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified over the past week. Drones have been deployed, CCTV surveillance will be carried out, and checkpoints as well as logistical planning will ensure venue readiness.

Security forces on Monday carried out searches in places close to Bakshi Stadium here ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir, officials said.

 

Sniffer dogs and metal detectors were used to detect any explosives, arms, or ammunition in some residential units located in the usually congested business areas of Amirakadal and Maharaja Bazaar.

 

According to official sources, no suspicious objects had been detected during the searches so far. The anti-sabotage checks and searches were carried out in areas located close to Bakshi Stadium, which is the main venue for Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations in Kashmir, they said.

Cultural programmes showcasing regional heritage, including folk dances and handicrafts, are also being planned. Authorities are ensuring public amenities like clean water, power supply, and transport, with strong inter-departmental coordination to ensure a smooth and grand patriotic celebration.

 

A week earlier, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, today chaired a meeting of line departments and other stakeholders to review arrangements for the Republic Day 2026 celebrations.

 

The meeting was attended by ADC, Pawan Kotwal; ASP Pardeep Singh; PO ICDS, Dr Rishi Kumar Sharma; ACR Idrees Lone; SDM Paddar, Dr Amit Kumar; SDM Marwah, Dr Mohd Ashraf; SDM Chatroo, Nayeem Ur Rehman; ACD Manoj Kumar; CEO Municipal Council, Mirza Mumtaz Iqbal; and other district officers, along with officers of CRPF/CISF and representatives of various departments, educational institutions, and power projects.
