A bomb disposal squad of the Indian Army successfully defused an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday after it was detected by joint forces in the Palhallan area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
According to officials, the timely intervention by the joint team, comprising Jammu and Kashmir police, Army, CRPF, and SSB battalion, averted a potential tragedy. The IED was discovered on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway in the Palhallan area of Baramulla's Pattan region.
Following the discovery, police halted traffic and restricted movement of civilians in the area.
A bomb disposal squad (BDS) was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they successfully destroyed the device without any harm.
"The timely recovery of the IED thwarted an untoward incident," said the officials, adding that traffic has since been restored along the highway.
A case has been filed under the relevant sections of law at the Pattan police station, and an investigation has been launched to track down the assailants responsible for planting the device.
With the onset of winter, security forces are preparing for potential militant activities, as they expect an increase in militant movements during the heavy snowfall in the coming months.
