Two extremists were killed in a fierce encounter between TSPC, a CPI (Maoist) faction and security forces in the Chatra district of Jharkhand late on Wednesday evening. After the encounter, one Maoist was caught alive.
State police officials said that an AK 47 rifle has also been recovered from the spot. The two Naxalites killed have been identified as Harendra Ganjhu and Ishwar.
Chatra SP Vikas Pandey said that two extremists were killed and one was caught alive in the encounter that took place in the Jori area of Chatra district.
Chatra Police officials said that the security forces were on an operation in the Jori area when a squad of TSPC militants tried to ambush them near Ganyotri forest.
TSPC's sub-zonal commander Harendra Ganjhu was present on the spot, while his squad started firing on the police. The security forces also took charge and started firing in retaliation.
Several rounds of firing took place from both sides. When security forces cornered the extremists, they took advantage of the darkness and ran away.
During the search operation, the police caught one extremist, while the bodies of two extremists were recovered.
In the same area, two Jharkhand Police personnel were martyred in a Maoist attack on 7 February 2024. The extremists who were killed in the encounter on Wednesday also had a hand in the killing of the State police personnel in February 2024.
