Responding to the suspected movement of individuals in the border belt of Kathua district, security forces launched a search operation on Thursday night, officials have reported.
Following specific intelligence about the movement of two individuals, forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the Janor belt of the district.
The entire area has been cordoned off, and a thorough combing operation is currently underway.
Kathua district has recently become a hotspot for terror-related violence, with numerous attacks reported this season.
Militants have carried out several ambushes in the region, resulting in the deaths of numerous soldiers, including officers.
In 2024, the Kathua district witnessed multiple terrorist attacks, with significant casualties among soldiers.
Notably, an attack in the Machedi area on 8 July resulted in the deaths of five Indian Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer.
Another attack on 15 July in the Desa forests of Doda district led to the deaths of four soldiers, including a captain.
The J&K Police have issued sketches of four terrorists involved in these attacks and have announced a reward for information leading to their capture.
Search operations are being conducted almost daily in this newly identified hotbed of terrorism in the Jammu region.
With the assembly elections in J&K approaching, security measures have been heightened to counter any potential threats in the area.
Despite the deployment of elite para SF soldiers and several battalions of regular forces, security personnel have struggled to manage the situation due to the challenging terrain and dense forests.
