Security forces have intensified measures across several poll-bound districts in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the first in a decade. Enhanced security is particularly focused on border districts and terror-affected areas to ensure free and fair elections.

In Doda district, which has seen a rise in terror-related incidents, authorities are employing advanced technology for better surveillance across all three assembly constituencies.

CCTV cameras will be installed at all 534 polling booths with live monitoring at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Special nakas, equipped with cameras, will also be set up to monitor road activity.

District Election Officer Harvinder Singh highlighted the emphasis on surveillance for the upcoming elections. “We have 27 static surveillance teams operating in three shifts at the borders and nine nakas, with 24-hour CCTV monitoring,” Singh said.

“Additionally, 27 flying squad teams will conduct surprise checks and raids based on intelligence inputs and complaints,” he added.

Security arrangements are also beefed up in the Rajouri district, where armed forces have been deployed at security-sensitive locations.

The assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases, starting on 18 September, followed by 25 September and 1 October.

The results will be announced in October.
