A 76-year-old undertrial prisoner died in the local civil hospital during treatment for chest pain, said Kapurthala’s Modern Jail authorities on Friday.
Jail superintendent Shyamal Jyoti confirmed the death of Jalandhar resident Syan Dass Anand on Thursday night in the local civil hospital where he was taken following complaints of chest pain and difficulty in breathing.
The jail authorities said he was immediately rushed to the local civil hospital where he died during treatment.
Anand was in judicial custody for the past 20 days on charges of committing fraud, police said.
His body was placed in the mortuary and post-mortem was conducted by a team of doctors on Friday.
