Fresh floods and landslides triggered by relentless rainfall have worsened the crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, disrupting road connectivity, damaging critical infrastructure and affecting nearly one lakh people across the state. The death toll remained at seven on Monday, while officials said more than 97,000 residents have been impacted by the continuing deluge.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), floodwaters and landslides have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, residential buildings, schools, agricultural land and essential public infrastructure in all 26 districts. Authorities are conducting damage assessments and intensifying relief and restoration efforts, while urging commuters to avoid several affected routes.
The worst-hit areas include Kurung Kumey district, where heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the Kumey River triggered flash floods in the Parsi-Parlo circle and Damin subdivision. A crucial bridge linking Huri and Damin was washed away, cutting off road access to the subdivision. Floodwaters also inundated the Inspection Bungalow at Parsi-Parlo, partially damaged two houses, affected a church and swept away a bridge connecting Pagam village.

St Thomas School in the district suffered severe damage after floodwaters submerged its campus, damaging classrooms, buildings, furniture, teaching materials and teachers' quarters. Academic activities have been suspended, with the district administration coordinating relief operations alongside police and paramilitary forces.
Elsewhere, a massive landslide blocked National Highway-13 near Pakro village in Pakke Kessang district, with restoration expected to take two to three days. Officials have advised commuters to avoid the Itanagar-Seppa Road until further notice. In West Kameng district, part of the approach road to the strategically important Sela Tunnel was washed away, forcing traffic to divert through the old Sela Road. The Potin-Kimin Road in Papum Pare district has also remained blocked since Sunday due to a landslide.
Statewide, floods and landslides have affected 97,182 people in 425 villages. The disaster has damaged 150 roads, 19 bridges, 21 culverts, 221 water supply systems, 58 government buildings, 10 hydel projects, two hospitals and three schools. Authorities said 541.75 hectares of farmland and nearly 1,010 hectares of forest area have also been affected, while hundreds of houses suffered damage as restoration efforts continue.
