Landslide in Kullu: 7 from Kashmir feared dead

According to an official, rescue and relief operations are underway, and all the victims belonged to North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The seven men were reportedly working as labourers in Himachal Pradesh.

As many as seven Kashmiris are feared dead after a massive landslide hit Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, officials said on Thursday. According to an official, rescue and relief operations are underway, and all the victims belonged to North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The seven men were reportedly working as labourers in Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said the landslide in Kullu caused the collapse of two residential houses, leaving around 12–13 people trapped under the rubble.

 

In a post on X, the NDRF said: “An NDRF team carried out collapsed structure search and rescue (CSSR) operations, during which three injured persons were rescued and one body was recovered. Search and rescue operations are continuing to trace the remaining trapped victims.”

 

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and expressed sympathy with the affected families.

In his post on X, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's office expressed grief over the loss of lives in Kullu and assured that all possible assistance was being extended.

 

Himachal Pradesh, along with much of northern India, has witnessed unprecedented rainfall in recent weeks, triggering massive floods, landslides, and mudslides since August. So far, more than 300 people have died in the state in rain-related incidents. Additionally, over 130 deaths have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, while eight people have lost their lives in Punjab due to flooding across several districts.
