Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested seven people, including three from Punjab, in a major theft and concealment case in Kangra district. During the operation, police recovered cash, gold and diamonds worth nearly Rs 3.5 crore.
Police said a case has been registered at Rakkar police station in Dehra subdivision under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently underway.
SP Dehra Sandeep Dhawal said the police received a complaint on June 29. The complainant alleged that some of his relatives had hidden around Rs 2.5 crore in cash along with 4 to 4.5 kg of gold, silver and diamond jewellery.
Following the complaint, police carried out raids at several locations after conducting a detailed investigation. During the searches, officials recovered Rs 90 lakh in cash, 801 US dollars and jewellery worth about Rs 2.5 crore. The recovered valuables included 1.324 kg of gold, silver ornaments and diamonds. Seven people were subsequently arrested.
In a separate development on July 17, Shimla Police seized movable and immovable assets worth Rs 2.28 crore in two NDPS cases. The action followed detailed financial investigations linked to alleged drug trafficking activities.
Police said the aim of the operation was to break the financial backbone of drug networks. Along with taking legal action against those involved in narcotics offences, investigators are also targeting assets believed to have been purchased using money earned from illegal drug trade.
In the first case, an FIR was registered at Kotkhai Police Station on September 19, 2024, under various provisions of the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police conducted a financial probe involving 17 accused persons.
Investigators found that money allegedly generated through drug trafficking had been used to purchase 16 vehicles, two flats in Solan and a residential house. The total value of these properties was estimated at around Rs 2.05 crore. Police said the assets did not match the known legal income of the accused and were therefore seized.
In the second case, Baluganj Police registered an FIR after recovering 8 grams of heroin, commonly known as chitta, from accused Rishabh Kumar near Tara Devi Road on National Highway-05 on April 21, 2026.
During the investigation, another accused, Badal alias Titla, was arrested on April 25 under provisions of the NDPS Act for his alleged involvement in the case.
