At least seven people were killed and several others sustained injuries in a devastating road accident on the Ramgarh–Bokaro main road in Jharkhand late on Thursday night after a coal-laden truck collided head-on with a pickup vehicle carrying members of a musical troupe near Barlong.
According to preliminary information, the victims were travelling in the pickup vehicle from Gola to Ramgarh as part of a tasha (band) group when the speeding truck, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into the vehicle near Lari-Barlong.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the pickup was completely mangled, leaving the occupants with little chance of survival. The accident triggered panic in the area as local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash. Seven people died on the spot, while several others suffered serious injuries.
Police, assisted by local residents, launched rescue operations and shifted the injured to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital for treatment. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition and may be referred to a higher medical facility for advanced care.
Officials said six of the deceased were residents of Marang Marcha village, while the seventh victim was a local social worker.
Expressing grief over the tragedy, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said he was deeply saddened by the loss of seven lives in the late-night accident near Lari-Barlong on the Ramgarh–Bokaro road.
In a condolence message, he prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families to endure the immense loss.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
