Inclement weather and fog have impacted air traffic in J&K as several incoming and outgoing flights at Srinagar International Airport were cancelled on Friday due to adverse conditions and operational issues, airport authorities said.
In an advisory issued on X, the airport authorities informed that multiple flights to and from Srinagar (SXR) scheduled for the day stand cancelled. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flights with the respective airlines before heading to the airport. The authorities have also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers.
According to details, flights operated by Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet connecting Srinagar with destinations such as Delhi, Amritsar and Kolkata were cancelled owing to bad weather at destination airports and operational constraints. According to an official list issued by the airport, at least seven flights scheduled for today were cancelled. These include Air India flights AI-3423/3424 and AI-1799/1810 to and from Delhi, which were cancelled due to bad weather in the national capital.
IndiGo flights 6E-6164/6165 to and from Amritsar were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions at Amritsar, while SpiceJet flight SG-661/664 operating on the Srinagar–Delhi sector was also cancelled owing to bad weather in Delhi.
In addition, SpiceJet flight SG-180/181 and IndiGo flights 6E-6961/6962 (Srinagar–Kolkata sector) and 6E-2044 were cancelled due to operational reasons, officials said.
The airport authorities expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and urged passengers to stay updated through official airline communication channels. Travellers have also been advised to plan their journeys accordingly in view of the prevailing weather conditions affecting flight operations.
Pertinently, entire Kashmir region is witnessing extremely harsh winter conditions with temperatures once again having plummeted to sub zero levels in many areas, though slight improvement in the degrees was seen a couple of days back. The prolonged dry spell which is attributing to extreme chilly weather, is expected to break in Jammu and Kashmir with possibility of snowfall from December 20-21 coinciding with the beginning of Chillai Kalan, the harshest period of winter in Kashmir valley.
