Several schools in Shimla received bomb threat emails on Wednesday morning, causing panic among students, parents and staff, the police said. Fortunately, all the threats turned out to be hoax.
As soon as the emails were reported, police teams, along with bomb squads, rushed to the schools. Many worried parents called the schools authorities to check on their children’s safety and some even came to take them home. In a few schools, students were moved to safer areas as a precaution.
The police thoroughly searched all school buildings and bomb squads carried out detailed inspections. "Nothing suspicious was found," a police official said.
Investigations are on to trace the sender of the emails, and the police are checking the IP address used. They are also in touch with the police in other states where similar threats were received.
In Uttar Pradesh, two private schools in Agra also got bomb threats on the same morning.
Earlier, places like the Himachal Pradesh High Court, district courts, deputy commissioners’ offices and the state secretariat had also received bomb threat emails — all of which turned out to be hoax.
