Case on the charges of sexual assault and stalking was filed against JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's son and grandson, H D Revanna, and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna respectively on Sunday. Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days.
The case was registered in Holenarasipur police station in the district based on a complaint by their cook who alleged that 4 months after she started working for them, Revanna used to sexually harass her and Prajwal used to make video calls to her daughter and used to have "vulgar conversations" with her.
The police have information that Prajwal, who is the son of MLA and former Minister H D Revanna, has left the country, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office.
The complainant said she is a relative of Revanna’s wife Bhavani. She also alleged that there was a threat to her life as well as other members of her family.
The Karnataka government yesterday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the alleged sex scandal. The move came following a letter by the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdhary to the government.
It said already an FIR has been lodged at the Holenarasipur police station under sections 354(A) (Sexual harassment), 354(D) (Stalking) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation), and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, which the SIT will investigate in detail.
The 33-year-old Prajwal was the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26. The JD(S) joined the NDA in September last year. The decision to constitute an SIT was announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Meanwhile, in response to the videos surfacing, through his election agent, Prajwal has lodged a complaint with the authorities that the videos are "doctored" and being circulated to tarnish his image ahead of the elections.

Congress workers - with women members joining in large numbers - took to the streets in Hubballi, Hassan, and Bengaluru, among other places, seeking action against the 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.
