The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly criticised popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee over a recent video on Sikh history, alleging that it contains serious inaccuracies and misrepresentations of Sikh history.
SGPC general secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal condemned the video, accusing Rathee of distorting key historical facts — including the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the legacy of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur — through the use of artificial intelligence-generated content.
"The way Dhruv Rathee has presented Sikh history is not only misleading but deeply disrespectful," said Grewal. "He did not even use Guru Sahib's name with the reverence it deserves."
He emphasised that the Sikh community does not need AI-driven reinterpretations of its history, especially when such content lacks cultural sensitivity and accuracy.
Calling the video a potential source of misinformation, Grewal urged the government to take strict action against Rathee, warning that such portrayals could hurt religious sentiments and mislead viewers unfamiliar with Sikh faith.
The SGPC has also sought stricter regulations on digital content relating to religious history to prevent what it termed as "casual and careless storytelling" in the future.
