Amit Shah is set to visit West Bengal from August 20 as the BJP government marks 100 days, with governance reviews and organisational changes on agenda.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal approaches its 100-day milestone, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit the state for a three-day tour beginning August 20. The visit comes at a politically significant moment, marking the end of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) era and the consolidation phase of the BJP’s first government in the state.

According to sources, Shah will have a packed schedule on August 21 and 22, including both official and party-related engagements. He is likely to hold meetings with top state officials and may also participate in an administrative review meeting at Nabanna, the state secretariat. The visit is likely to be closely watched, as it could signal the BJP’s next steps in consolidating power and addressing internal challenges in West Bengal.

August 19 marks the completion of 100 days of the BJP-led government in Bengal. Shah’s visit is expected to focus primarily on reviewing the government’s performance and assessing the pace of administrative work. Discussions on the progress of key development projects and governance initiatives are likely to take centre stage during these meetings.

In addition to administrative reviews, the Union Home Minister is also expected to attend the BJP’s core committee meeting and an extended state committee meeting. These sessions are anticipated to involve detailed deliberations on both governance and organisational matters.

The visit holds added significance in the context of internal party dynamics. Since assuming power, the BJP leadership in the state has taken a strict stance to enforce discipline and curb the influx of defections from the TMC. Over 250 party workers have reportedly been suspended on charges of extortion and anti-party activities at the grassroots level.

Despite these actions, concerns persist within the party’s top leadership regarding the effectiveness of district-level control. Several district presidents, who were tasked with maintaining discipline, are perceived to have fallen short in addressing these challenges. As a result, the state leadership is reportedly considering major organisational changes.

Sources indicate that more than a dozen district presidents could be removed from their posts in the coming days. Against this backdrop of internal churn and administrative review, Shah’s presence at the upcoming party meetings is expected to play a crucial role in shaping both governance priorities and organisational restructuring in the state.
