Shah to chair NEC plenary in Shillong; Scindia to attend meeting

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M Scindia will embark on a two-day visit to Shillong beginning Wednesday, during which he will participate in key meetings, including the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), officials said.

 

On Thursday, Scindia will attend the 73rd NEC plenary at the State Convention Centre in Shillong. The session will be chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, who is also the Chairman of the Council.

 

The plenary will deliberate on key issues concerning the holistic development of the North Eastern Region, including regional connectivity, infrastructure development, economic growth, and enhanced inter-state coordination, officials said.

 

During the visit, Scindia will also participate in a meeting related to the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC). The discussions will focus on leveraging space technology and advanced scientific solutions to accelerate development across the North Eastern states.

Officials said the visit is significant in the context of reviewing ongoing development initiatives in the region and discussing future strategies for inclusive and sustainable growth.

 

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has been actively pursuing multiple initiatives aimed at strengthening connectivity, tourism, agriculture, skill development, infrastructure development and economic opportunities across the eight Northeastern states, they added.

 

The NEC plenary is expected to provide a platform for reviewing ongoing projects and charting priorities for future development in the region, with a focus on coordinated and sustained regional growth.
