A Deputy Controller (Finance) with the Municipal Corporation, Shimla, was found hanging at his residence on Friday. According to reports, Rameshwar Sharma (45), who had joined the Shimla MC as Deputy Controller a few months ago, had attended office in the morning and taken half-day leave.
He returned to his home in Mehli on the outskirts of Shimla and was later found hanging. Sources said his wife spotted him first.
Sharma was rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The Police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS but have not yet confirmed it as a case of suicide. Investigations are underway, an officer said.
It is the second reported incident involving the death of a government officer in the past two years. Earlier, a Chief Engineer of HP Power Corporation Limited, Vimal Negi, had gone missing and was later found dead in a dam in Bilaspur district. The CBI is investigating Negi’s mysterious death but has not reached any conclusion yet.
