Showing strong displeasure over the absence of Public Works Department officials during a DISHA meeting, Shimla BJP MP Suresh Kashyap on Monday directed the district administration to issue show-cause notices to the officers concerned.

Speaking to the media after chairing the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting, Kashyap said the absence of officials was not acceptable because these meetings review important centrally funded schemes.

He said during the meeting, progress under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Jal Jeevan Mission and the Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Programme was reviewed. He noted that though Himachal Pradesh has received a substantial allocation under PMGSY, many road projects remain pending.

Calling roads the lifeline of the hill state, Kashyap said delays in using central funds and road damage due to heavy rain are serious issues, and several projects have been incomplete since 2016–17, showing negligence by officials.

Responding to the chief minister’s statement on postponing Panchayati Raj elections, Kashyap accused the government of misusing the Disaster Act as an excuse.

He asked are schools not functioning, is the marriage season not underway, are buses and public transport not operating. If rural roads are blocked, it reflects the state government's failure, which is not a valid reason to delay elections, he said.

He alleged that the government wants more time only to distribute cheques for political advantage, but said people have already seen its performance in the past three years and the government has failed in fulfilling its duties.

On the new labour codes, Kashyap said the reforms will benefit workers in both organised and unorganised sectors and their positive results will be visible soon.
