Shimla police book man for using Pakistan flag on social media

The Shimla Police have booked an individual for allegedly using an image of the Pakistan flag as his WhatsApp display picture, officials said.

 

The accused, identified as Adil Magre from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir, has been residing near Lakkar Bazar in Shimla since 2016. He is employed with a private gas agency as a delivery worker, the police added.

 

According to the authorities, Magre has been charged under Sections 196 and 197(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for “promoting enmity on the grounds of religion, language, caste, race or community” and for “assertions prejudicial to national integration.”

 

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the intent behind the act and to determine if there are any links to a larger network.
