Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday asserted that the state government would, within the next three months, disclose crucial details about Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, a Pakistani national whom he had earlier alleged to be linked to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife.
The Chief Minister made the statement on the floor of the Assembly during the ongoing Budget session.
“I promise on the floor of the Assam Legislative Assembly that in three months, we will reveal startling facts on the Ali Sheikh-Hon’ble MP issue, which will shock everyone in Assam,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister further revealed that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh had entered India at least 18 times over the years.
“After the formation of the SIT, within three days, we discovered that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh came to India 18 times from 2010 to 2018. Now, we will ascertain who facilitated his entry and who extended hospitality to him. We will dismantle this network and return to the Assembly in August with conclusive findings. The revelations will be substantial, even fatal, and will leave the people of Assam in shock,” Sarma stated.
In accordance with a Cabinet decision, Assam Police registered an FIR under CID Police Station Case No 05/2025 U/S 48/152/61/197(1) BNS, 2023 RW Sec.13(1) UA(P) Act against Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and unidentified individuals.

Subsequently, the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. “Assam Police will conduct a professional and completely objective investigation,” Sarma assured the House.
Previously, Sarma had claimed that Ali Sheikh maintained contact with Elizabeth Gogoi, the wife of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
He also alleged that Sheikh, apart from being engaged with the Pakistan government, had founded ‘Lead Pakistan’, a non-profit organisation focusing on climate change.
According to the Chief Minister, Elizabeth Gogoi had been integrally involved with the organisation during her stay in Islamabad.
Sarma stated that the Assam Cabinet had taken note of concerns regarding the involvement of a Pakistani-based leader and other actors in climate action initiatives with potential implications for India’s internal affairs.
He suggested that the true nature of such engagements warranted closer scrutiny.
