Shops and commercial establishments in Amritsar, Punjab, remained closed on Saturday as traders in the city observed a bandh in protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
The bandh was called by the Amritsar Traders Association along with several other local outfits. Protesters also took out a march through city markets, including the old walled city area, expressing their outrage over the incident.
Private schools remained closed as well, though essential services such as fuel stations, milk and vegetable vendors, and medical services continued to operate normally. Public transport, including trains and Punjab Roadways buses, also ran on schedule, although city roads appeared deserted due to minimal local transport movement.
Protests have been ongoing across various parts of Punjab over the past three days in response to the Pahalgam attack that occurred on Tuesday.
