Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed on Tuesday that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to meet Rahul Gandhi in Mysuru this afternoon. The Congress leader is making a brief stop in the city during a transit visit while on his way to Tamil Nadu.
Downplaying any political gravity behind the encounter, Parameshwara described the scheduled sit-down as a "cordial meeting." He told reporters in Bengaluru that the state leadership keeps a steady line of communication open with the party's central high command and that such interactions are part of the normal course of business.
When asked by the press if he would be joining the Chief Minister to greet Gandhi, the Home Minister took a more pragmatic stance. "I’ll go if there’s a genuine need for me to be there," he remarked. "Otherwise, why go along unnecessarily?"
He was quick to squash any rumours of internal friction or accessibility issues within the party ranks. Parameshwara insisted that he, like other senior state leaders, has no trouble securing time with the Gandhi family or AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge whenever the situation demands it. "There’s no issue at all in meeting Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, Kharge, or Priyanka. I can sit with them whenever the need arises," he added, reiterating that the party remains a unified front.
