Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated a web-based integrated land record management system on Thursday, coinciding with the 78th Independence Day celebrations.
Developed by the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, this new system aims to enhance the efficiency and management of land records across the state.
During the state-level festivities at Paljor Stadium, where he hoisted the national flag, Tamang announced plans for year-long celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood.
Under the theme “Sunaulo Sikkim, Samridha Sikkim - Samarth Sikkim” (Golden Sikkim, Prosperous Sikkim, Capable Sikkim), the celebrations will showcase the state’s achievements, culture, and future vision.
The Chief Minister revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to serve as the chief guest for the grand celebrations.
Highlighting the need to preserve Sikkim's cultural heritage amid rapid technological advancements, Tamang stated, "Our traditions and values are the foundation upon which our society is built, and they must be preserved for future generations."
He also pointed out the dual responsibility of embracing modern technology while safeguarding cultural identities.
Additionally, the Chief Minister introduced the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in the Name of Mother), urging citizens to plant a tree in honour of their mothers.
This initiative, he explained, serves as both a tribute to mothers and a vital step towards preserving Sikkim’s biodiversity and combating climate change.
Tamang reiterated, “It is our collective responsibility to work hand in hand to realise the dream of 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), as our success lies in our ability to function as a cohesive team.”
