In a bid to enhance work-life balance, the Government of Sikkim has announced that the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month will now be observed as official holidays for government employees.
This decision, aimed at improving efficiency and punctuality, was outlined in a circular issued today by the Department of Personnel.
The circular, signed by the Secretary to the Government of Sikkim, specifies that government offices will operate from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM on regular working days.
The initiative addresses concerns over tardiness among employees, which has been disrupting official functions and inconveniencing the public.
“To ensure effective implementation of government policies and programs, it has become imperative to address the issue of late arrivals and early departures,” the circular stated.
To enforce punctuality, department heads will conduct unannounced attendance checks and periodic inspections.
Employees arriving after 10:30 AM or leaving before 4:30 PM without valid reasons will face deductions from their casual leave balances.
Furthermore, the circular pointed out the necessity of formal leave applications and discourages the use of informal methods like SMS or WhatsApp for leave requests.
