Sikkim is set to welcome a new era of traffic management with the implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI) system from May 25th.
This initiative, announced by Transport Commissioner-cum Secretary Raj Yadav, leverages advanced AI algorithms to streamline traffic flow and enforce regulations.
The new AI traffic management system will be implemented from May 25, 2024.
The system boasts the capability to automatically detect discrepancies in crucial vehicle documents, including insurance, tax, fitness certificates, pollution under control (PUC) permits, and more.
Traffic violations like speeding, jumping signals, and improper lane usage will also be identified by the AI.
This automation extends to e-challan generation, ensuring swift and fair penalty issuance based on the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1980.
The onus remains on all vehicle owners, including those with government vehicles, to maintain updated documentation to avoid e-challans, which can be resolved at the district SP/RTO level.
"The new system powered by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms is designed to automatically detect the validity of documents such as insurance, tax, fitness, pollution under control (PUC) and permits along with traffic violations such as speeding, jumping signals, improper lane, usage etc," Transport Commissioner-cum Secretary Raj Yadav said.
"All vehicle owners (including government vehicles) are required to keep all their vehicle documents up to date as any discrepancies will lead to the issuance of an e-challan which will be resolved at the level of the concerned SP/ RTO of the district," Yadav added.
"The e-challan will also be generated automatically as per the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1980 by the new transport management system," Yadav said.
