In a significant political development, Sikkim's legislative assembly effectively became opposition-less as the lone MLA from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) joined the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on July 10.
Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, representing the Syari Constituency, met with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at his official residence in Mintokgang before announcing his decision.
During their meeting, CM Tamang officially welcomed Lamtha into the SKM fold, marking a strategic shift aimed at enhancing development efforts within Syari.
The MLA, who narrowly secured victory in the recent elections, expressed his commitment to collaborate with the government on key developmental issues affecting his constituency.
CM Tamang praised Lamtha's dedication to addressing local concerns and assured full support from the state government in advancing the area's welfare.
"We warmly welcome MLA Lamtha to the SKM for the comprehensive development of Syari Constituency," said CM Tamang, emphasizing the unified focus on accelerating progress under their leadership.
Lamtha's move comes after the SKM secured a landslide victory in the recent elections, clinching 30 out of 31 seats alongside the Lok Sabha polls.
