The National Highway 10 (NH10), a crucial conduit linking Siliguri to Sikkim, is set to reopen for small vehicles either this evening or tomorrow, July 24 or 25, according to Kalimpong's District Magistrate.

The highway has been closed for the past 24 days due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.

The landslides, which impacted multiple locations including the 29th Mile area, Selfie Dara, Birik Dara, and near Melli, forced the authorities to shut down this vital route.

Persistent rain has hampered repair efforts, but the highway’s reopening is anticipated to provide much-needed relief to affected travelers and locals.

Despite the imminent reopening, authorities will continue to monitor conditions and implement necessary measures to ensure public safety.

Prior to this, the highway was completely blocked near Bagpul on July 1, with significant disruption at the Coronation Bridge due to incessant rainfall and landslides.

To mitigate travel issues, authorities had advised commuters to use the alternative Odlabari–Siliguri route.

This diversion route—Odlabari > Teesta Barrage Gajaldoba > Farabari > Asigarh (Eastern Bypass Rd) > Siliguri—was recommended to prevent delays and congestion during the NH10 closure.

Travelers are urged to adhere to this diversion until the blockade is fully cleared, ensuring a smoother and safer journey to Siliguri.
