Sikkim mountaineer Tshering Choden has climbed Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, moving a step closer to completing the prestigious Seven Summits challenge.
The 37-year-old mountaineer reached the 5,642-metre summit in Russia at around 7.30 am local time on Sunday, marking another milestone in her high-altitude climbing career, officials said.
A resident of Chongay in Gangtok, Choden had earlier scaled Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, in August 2025. The successful ascent of Mount Elbrus adds a second continental summit to her growing list of achievements.

Choden is a graduate of the Basic Mountaineering Course conducted by the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) at Chemchey in South Sikkim.
In an official statement, authorities described the successful expedition as a significant milestone in her pursuit of the Seven Summits challenge — the feat of climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.
The statement said Choden's accomplishment was a matter of pride for Sikkim and praised her perseverance, endurance and commitment to mountaineering.
It also expressed hope that her achievement would inspire aspiring climbers and adventure enthusiasts across the state to pursue their goals in high-altitude sports.
Having already conquered the highest peaks in Africa and Europe, Choden has moved closer to joining the select group of mountaineers worldwide who have successfully completed the Seven Summits challenge, regarded as one of the most demanding achievements in the sport.
