In what can be considered as a major turn of events, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the gold smuggling case has called UDF convenor and Congress MP Adoor Prakash for questioning. Prakash appeared at the Crime Branch office on Saturday morning following a formal notice from investigators. The move comes after a photograph circulated widely showing Prakash alongside the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potty, at a meeting with Sonia Gandhi, sparking allegations from the LDF.

Prakash, however, has denied any allegations of wrongdoing and has admitted that he had met Potty, who was his constituency member, on a couple of occasions and had attended functions that he had organised, but he has assured that he had absolutely no role in the theft of the gold from the temple. Just like this, Kadakampally Surendran, the CPI(M) MLA and former Devaswam Minister, was subjected to the same sorts of interrogation as well.

Addressing the media, AICC leader KC Venugopal stated that the party has no objection to the SIT questioning anyone, asserting that the law should take its course. However, he hinted that the LDF is trying to deflect attention from the actual perpetrators. Meanwhile, the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potty, who was recently released on statutory bail, is also currently being interrogated by the SIT in Thiruvananthapuram to map out his financial transactions and connections to other suspects.

The SIT has already arrested 12 people, including two former Travancore Devaswom Board presidents associated with the CPI(M), in connection with the theft of gold from the holy shrine's sanctum sanctorum.
