In a joint operation, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand police arrested the dreaded extremist Dunesh Lakra alias Ravi in the Jashpur district of Chhatisgarh on Wednesday.
Dunesh Lakra, who is Area Commander of the banned militant group Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad, was arrested with his associates -- Ranjit Kumar Mahato, Herman Kumar Gannum, Ram Lakra, Tabsum Ahmed and Ghulam Shahzada.
Ghulam Shahzada is a native of Odisha, while all other extremists are from various districts of Jharkhand.
During the police operation an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 90 rounds of live bullets, a chapar and a naxal uniform along with items of daily use were recovered from the arrested rebels.
Chhattisgarh's Surguja Range Inspector General, Ankit Garg said that there was intelligence input from Jharkhand Police that one of the most wanted Dunesh Lakra alias Ravi and his associates were hiding in the Balrampur and Jashpur area.
They were staying as tenants in someone's house and had high-tech weapons and bullets. It was also said that the extremists were planning a major crime.
Garg said that a team was formed to apprehend the extremists with the help of the Garhwa district Police of Jharkhand. The team raided the area and captured four militants. On their information, Tunesh Lakra and Tabsum Ahmed were arrested from Kunkuri in Jashpur district.
A total of 31 serious cases are registered in the police files against Area Commander Dunesh Lakra. These include 18 cases of murder, robbery, extortion, dacoity in Jharkhand and 13 in Chhattisgarh.
Superintendent of Police, Garhwa, Deepak Pandey said that Oraon was in charge of the armed squad, which operated mainly in Garhwa, Palamu, Hazaribagh, and Balrampur of the Jharkhand - Chhattisgarh bordering areas.
