A major road accident occurred inside the Aut Tunnel on the Kullu-Manali National Highway on Wednesday morning. Six persons were hurt in a head-on collision between a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus going from Kullu to Shimla and a truck. The injured have been admitted to the Regional Hospital, Kullu.
As per reports, the accident happened when the HRTC bus was leaving Kullu for Shimla on Wednesday morning. As it entered the Aut Tunnel, it collided with a truck coming from the opposite side. The impact was strong, severely damaging the front ends of both vehicles and causing panic among the passengers on board.
The drivers of the bus and truck, a conductor, and three passengers were injured in the collision. Upon receiving information about the incident, locals and the Aut police team reached the spot immediately. A rescue operation was launched, and the injured trapped inside the tunnel were extricated after considerable effort.
With the help of 108 ambulances, all injured were taken to the Regional Hospital in Kullu, where they are undergoing treatment. Doctors said the condition of all injured remains stable.
Police have registered a case and started investigating the cause of the accident. Traffic inside the tunnel was briefly disrupted due to the collision but was later restored by the police.
