Six militants arrested, arms cache recovered from Manipur

On May 18, central security forces apprehended three cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from the stretch between Border Pillars 77 and 79 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.

Two active cadres of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended from separate locations in Imphal West district on May 17.


Security forces arrested six insurgent cadres linked to different banned militant outfits during a series of coordinated operations across Manipur over the past two days, officials confirmed. Arms and ammunition were also recovered during the operations, indicating continued militant activity in the region.

 

On May 18, central security forces apprehended three cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from the stretch between Border Pillars 77 and 79 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The arrested individuals were identified as Wangthoi Nahakpam alias Lingjel (20) from Charangpat in Thoubal district, Nanaoba Nandeibam alias Angou (19) from Kongba in Imphal East district, and Malem Oinam alias Manithoiba (20) from Nambol in Bishnupur district.

 

In a separate operation conducted on May 17, security personnel arrested an active cadre of the banned UNLF (Koireng) faction from the Yairipok Bazar area under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal district. The individual, identified as Thangjam Dhamendra Singh alias Wayenba alias Volume (26), is a resident of Leirongthel Pitra in Thoubal district. According to police, he was allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking and sale of arms and ammunition. A 9 mm magazine, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, a power bank with a USB cable, and an ATM card were recovered from his possession.

 

Meanwhile, two active cadres of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended from separate locations in Imphal West district on May 17. The arrested individuals were identified as Sorokhaibam Priyochand Singh alias Sajao (39) of Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai and Moirangthem Naobi Singh (47) of Uripok Takhellambam Leikai. Police said Priyochand Singh was arrested near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), while Naobi Singh was apprehended from his residence. Two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were seized from them.

 

In another operation on May 18, security forces recovered a cache of arms from the foothill area between Lamdeng and Kameng village under Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West district. The recovered items included three bolt-action single-barrel guns, one .22 pistol, four 9 mm pistols, one .22 pistol magazine, and four 9 mm pistol magazines.

 

Officials stated that further investigation is underway in all the cases as security forces continue efforts to curb insurgent activities in the state.
