A case has been registered against six Class 12 students of Sainik School, Sujanpur in Hamirpur for reportedly ragging a Class 8 student, police said on Thursday.

The victim’s father had filed a complaint after which the police registered a case under the relevant Sections of the Ragging Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Sujanpur police station.

The victim, who is from Chamba district, has accused six senior students of ragging him and provoking him to take his own life. The complainant said the seniors forced the boy to perform obscene acts and also assaulted him.

According to the complaint, when the student informed the warden about the incident, the senior boys allegedly beat him again, abused him, and made him sit in the ‘murga’ position for 45 minutes repeatedly.

Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh Thakur said the police have started an investigation into the case.
