Six workers killed in explosion at TN fireworks unit

Six workers lost their lives in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Virudhunagar district on Saturday morning.

The blast, suspected to have occurred during the mixing of chemicals, caused the collapse of at least one room at the Sainath Fireworks unit.


Emergency personnel from Virudhunagar, Sattur, and Aruppukottai rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames, following the devastating explosion.

As of now, the bodies of six workers have been recovered, though their identities remain unconfirmed. The bodies are being sent to the Government Medical College Hospital in Virudhunagar for autopsy.

"This is the first cracker accident in the district this year," authorities said, confirming that rescue operations are ongoing.

Further investigation is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the explosion and whether any safety protocols were breached.
