Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Supremo Prem Singh Tamang, has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for a second consecutive term.

Governor Lakshman Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers during a grand swearing-in ceremony held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok on Monday.

Accompanied by eleven other Ministers, including Sonam Lama, Arun Kumar Upreti, and Samdup Lepcha, Tamang took the oath amidst thousands of enthusiastic SKM supporters who gathered to witness the event.

The 56-year-old politician, also known as P.S. Tamang, recited the oath in Nepali, eliciting loud cheers from the crowd.

Despite firecrackers being prohibited in Sikkim, the stadium erupted in celebrations as Tamang officially assumed office.

The SKM secured a landslide victory, winning 31 out of the 32 Assembly seats in the elections, which were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls.

Tamang emerged victorious in both the Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies that he contested.

The Opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which had ruled the state for 25 consecutive years until 2019, managed to secure only one seat in the elections.
