SKM: Haryana's MSP announcement a political gimmick

SKM condemns Haryana's MSP announcement.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has condemned the Haryana government's announcement of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 24 crops as an "election stunt", claiming it fails to meet the formula suggested by the MS Swaminathan committee.

The SKM, which led the 2020-21 protests against the scrapped farm laws, argued that the government's decision lacks a legal guarantee for procurement at MSP, a key demand of farmers.

The farmers' body criticized Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for announcing MSP without the C2+50% formula, calling it a "betrayal" of farmers who fought against the corporate farm acts.

"SKM strongly condemns the Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini for announcing MSP for 24 crops – but without C2+50 percent formulae and legally guaranteed procurement," it said.

"The partial declaration in a BJP Rally by the CM is a mere election stunt to woo the farmers' votes to remain in power. It is not acceptable and the farmers of Haryana who had fought the three Corporate Farm Acts will teach BJP a lesson for this betrayal," the SKM said.

The SKM will hold a meeting on August 20 to decide further action and undertake village-level campaigns to expose and oppose the BJP in the forthcoming assembly election.

The current MSP of Rs 2,300 per quintal for paddy is based on A2+FL, which is less than the Rs 3,012 per quintal recommended by the Swaminathan committee.

The Haryana Cabinet's decision to procure 10 additional crops at MSP has been met with skepticism by farmers, who claim it is an attempt to woo votes ahead of the assembly polls.

In a separate incident, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) workers protested against a builder for allegedly grabbing a farmer's land in Gurugram, submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
