Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said smart meters were being installed in the state by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
“If the installation of these meters is stopped, the Central government will impose cuts on the scheme,” he said while replying to a question raised by Congress MLA from Palampur, Ashish Butail, during Question Hour in the State Assembly.
He said complaints regarding higher electricity bills had been reported since the installation of smart meters in the state. “People can lodge complaints with the concerned Executive Engineer’s office. The government will inquire into it and compare it with the previous bills. If any discrepancies are found, such bills will be rectified,” he said.
Congress MLA from Nahan, Ajay Solanki, said the company entrusted with the installation work was delaying the process so a fresh tender should be issued.
Responding to this, the Chief Minister said the government would issue directions to expedite the work.
